With Mardi Gras taking place today, a quick update on the state of timeshare in the Big Easy. New Orleanswas one of the earliest urban areas to adopt timeshare in a significant way, although many were smaller, mixed-use properties, but they were there.
Now, it’s growing in a significant way, with Wyndham cousin companies, Worldmark and Wyndham Resorts each opening resorts under their name. The former Fairfield has opened the La Belle Maison, in a converted landmark printing press, with more than 125 timeshare units.
The former Trendwest has acquired the former Avenue Plaza Resort , and it’s even larger than La Belle Maison.
These join more than 15 properties that have been long operating in and around the French Quarter, like the Quarter House.
My spies report that, no surprise, they are all operating at full capacity this week, mostly owner occupied, but a handful of exchanges were available through Interval International and RCI. And many were available in the rental market, though at a pretty good premium.
