I

This is the way the story ran in the SF Examiner a few years ago. Certainly some of the names of have changed. Fairfield Resorts is now Wyndham Vacation Resorts. I've tried to update the links where I can, but not the text. (editors note)

The most romantic weekend of the year. A three-day weekend, to boot. A great time to get away.
It’s a busy weekend at the timeshare resorts, and many of them are doing something special for Valentine’s Day. Here’s a look at what some resort around the country are doing.
Los Abrigados Resort & Spa, the ILX resort in Sedona, AZ is certainly set up to offer their “Sweetheart of a Deal” packages. The grounds, with paths along the Oak Creek are already part of a very romantic location. The two top rated restaurants – Steaks and Sticks for American food and Joeys Bistro for Italian – are offering special Valentine’s Day menus; champagne and roses will also be available.
The restaurants are excellent, but Los Abrigados is more than just great food. The top-rated spa, recently expanded by specialists Health Fitness Dynamics, offers a special couples package. The package allows you and your loved one to choose from a variety of massages, facials and other treatments, being pampered in the same treatment room.
Orlando-based Fairfield Resorts operates a multi-location club with more than thirty resorts including Williamsburg, VA, Las Vegas, Anaheim and Hawaii. Fairfield Weekend Parties has proven to be a popular way for owners to share the Fairfield experience with friends and family, while keeping up to date with the latest program news.
The parties, held throughout the year in more than sixty times Fairfield markets, include a number of special events. This years schedule includes a concert by Celine Dion.
For Valentines Day they have gone above and beyond their usual exceptional event standards. Fairfield offers two different parties for owners to choose from.
Pagosa Springs, CO, is home to railroad museums and rodeos. The four-day package begins Friday night with a welcome reception dinner and dance, including gifts for the arriving owners. Saturday morning activities include snowmobiling and hottubbing.
The attraction Saturday night is a twenty-minute sleigh ride, drawn by teams of Clydesdales, to a catered dinner in a rustic restaurant. After breakfast Sunday morning owners and their guests enjoy a day of skiing. The entire cost is only $149 per couple, which includes all the meals, accommodations and activities. Owners do not to use their Fairfield vacation credits for the Party Weekends.
What could be more romantic than flowers, a candlelit dinner, and a little wine followed by a nice dessert? Flowers, candlelight, wine and dessert all without worrying about the kids. At several of Marriott Vacation Club International resorts, if you take care of the dinner, Marriott will take care of your kids.
Cypress Harbor in Orlando and Newport Coast are just two of the many resorts in the MVCI system hosting traditional Kids’ Night Out Valentine’s Pizza Party. Depending on the resort activities include face painting, scavenger hunts, piñatas and karaoke.
The parents are not forgotten. They can enjoy poolside casino, “Not So New Newlywed” games and commemorative photos. Finish the evening with drink specials and live entertainment.
Newly opened MCVI resort Ko Olina Beach Club on Oahu is starting its own traditions with musician playing romantic local tunes, drink specials and complimentary roses for the ladies. And don’t forget the hula lessons. Feel free to insert a valentines lei joke here.
The best Marriott has to offer may just be the Marbella Beach Resort in Spain. A four-course “in love” dinner, and don’t forget the roses and special selection of chocolates. Followed by yet another lei joke here.
Hilton Grand Vacation Club is not planning any special events specifically for Valentine’s Day. Las Vegas Resort Manager Alex Canales points out that his staff often does something special for owners when they learn of milestone events like anniversaries
Intrawest at Squaw Valley is offering a special champagne getaway package at their Lake Tahoe ski resort. The promotion is geared to renters, but since the resort partners with the individual owners of the wholly owned condos, heavily promoted events like this create significant potential revenue opportunities for the individual owners.
Certainly, other resorts around the country are offering special events for the holiday weekend. Even if there is nothing planned, drop the kids at Grandma’s, and make your own event.
