Former Vanderbilt centerfielder David Macias is in town this week with the Iowa Cubs as they take on the Nashville Sounds at Greer Stadium. The final game of the series is Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The Sounds are leading this week’s series three games to none.

Macias was drafted by the Cubs in the 19th round of the first-year player draft just last year and has quickly moved through the minor league system playing second base, rather than centerfield as he did at Vandy.  Macias is batting .236 in 20 games this season for the Cubs, tallying 13 hits with three RBI and an on base percentage of .288.
Recruited by Vanderbilt as an infielder (later relocated to the outfield) out of The Woodlands, Texas, the consistent Macias was the leadoff hitter for the ‘Dores with a .424 on base percentage (270 at bats) in 63 starts his senior year. He played all four years for the Commodores, earning his degree in 2008.
