What if the Titans dismal season was all part of an elaborate plan developed by the suits to create a super-franchise that alternated successful seasons with bad ones in an effort to indirectly rig the draft the subsequent year and stack the roster full of first round draft picks that would ultimately field a superior team?

Stay with me here. What if the Titans lost on purpose to secure a top 10 draft pick in 2010? And suppose that they returned all of their players from the 2009 squad; the 2009 squad features something like 96 percent of the players from the team that went 13-3 in 2008. So in theory, the 2009 team should be just as good as 2008, right?

Below is a chart of the Titans losing seasons since 2000 listed along with the player they drafted in the first round the following April.

Year
Record
Following year's top draft pick
2001
7-9
Albert Haynesworth - 2002
2004
5-11
Pacman Jones -2005
2005
4-12
Vince Young - 2006
2006
8-8
Michael Griffin - 2007

If all players listed here were still playing for the Titans and were still as good as they were when most productive, the Titans would be unstoppable. Throw in the rest of the team made up of players like Keith Bulluck, Kyle Vanden Bosch, Chris Johnson and so on, the Titans would be ridiculously good.

So here’s how it would work behind the scenes: After studying and researching the 2010 draft class predictions, the Titans make a conscious decision to lose all but one or two of their games in 2009. They are then awarded the first or second pick in the 2010 draft and they select some prolific players. This process would stack their roster, setting them up to dominate in 2010 and maybe 2011 and then they would intentionally tank again in 2012 so that they could draft early again in 2013.

So what if there are a lot of ‘what ifs’? Right now, it’s difficult for Titans fans to wrap their heads around this 0-5 record. There’s no legitimate reason that this team should be so bad. It’s nearly the exact same squad as last year!

But unfortunately even shoddy conspiracy theories can’t provide comfort, so for now, let your imagination go because that’s the only thing that can save you from this pro football nightmare.
