Thursday is the day. May 7 2009 is going to be very interesting. House Bill 2186 will be brought to the floor of the House for a vote, if it passes, it will move on to the senate, where Senate Bill 80 can be attached. If 2186 makes it as far as the senate, the attachment of SB 80 is very likely.
There is still time to contact your local House of Representatives member. Oregon's economy and future hang in the balance. Those elected officials, as is the case in so many area's of the state are completely out of touch with what these bills mean to the average person simply trying to make ends meet.
Thomas Jefferson said it perfectly in 1802.
If we can but prevent the government from wasting the labours of the people, under the pretence of taking care of them, they must become happy. Their finances are now under such a course of application as nothing could derange but war or federalism. The gripe of the latter has shown itself as deadly as the jaws of the former.
Thomas Jefferson, 29 November 1802
The time is now, to wrest control back to where it belongs. With the people. It is time to make it very clear to the legislature of Oregon, the type of fiscal and social manipulation that it is undertaking is utterly unacceptable.
We did not send them to Salem with the intent of beggaring the state, yet that is going to be the outcome of their work.
We did not send them to Salem to increase our taxes to fund programs pointed at micro-managing our lives.
We did not send them to drive businesses out of the state.
We did not give them a mandate to destroy the small business owner and force them and their employees onto welfare and unemployment.
As responsible adults, people trying to keep their jobs to feed and clothe their kids with out the help of anyone other than the fruits of their own labor, it is up to us to take the time out of our busy and stressful lives, and send a word to our representatives. It is up to us. Are we going to allow elected officials in Salem to make our lives so much more difficult and so much more stressful? Elected officials who will not feel the impact of needing to use a WIC check for milk at the grocery store, are about to force a great many Oregonians to do so.
Take 5 minutes out of your day, let them know it is they who will be fired next. It is those very people writing the laws for Oregon, who when their term ends, will be back in the job market to find that there isn't one to get into.
The District Map of Oregon can be found at this link, along with the names of the elected Representatives for each.
The contact information for Each Representative can be found at the Oregon State Representatives site.
Our elected officials are going to be debating laws that may very well affect or eliminate your job. They are going to be debating legislation that will increase your cost of living if it passes. 5 minutes of your time may very well change the entire course of this State's future.
