"A controversial novel about the Prophet Muhammad and his child bride, scrapped in the U.S., will be released in the U.K.," reports the BBC.
"Last month, publisher Random House cancelled the U.S. publication of The Jewel of Medina, by Sherry Jones, fearing it could offend Muslims."
The novel was to have rolled out August 12, but days before the publication date, Random House backed off -- "for the safety of the author, employees of Random House, booksellers and anyone else who would be involved in distribution and sale of the novel."
In December 2006, Robert Spencer's book The Truth About Muhammad "was found to contain 'objectionable material' about Islam's founder" and banned in Pakistan.
An independent U.K. company will publish The Jewel of Medina "next month, saying its release is 'imperative'."
