This time of year Colorado ski resorts are busy selling passess to skiers and riders throughout the state. With a variety of choices in passes and hills, buying one could be a bit overwhelming for the first-year skier. Below are some ideas for making the pass-buying experience more manageable.
1. Research the different resorts in Colorado.
Which resort to pick? There are so many! Vail Resortsis perhaps the biggest, which includes Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Heavenly Resort (in California) and a partnership with Araphaoe Basin. There's also Winter Park/Copper Mountain, Loveland, Eldora, Ski Cooper, Silverton, and others.
When choosing a resort, consider the terreain available and amenities. Are there large back bowls to ski, or does the terrain park seem more appealing?
2. Select the pass.
Each resort is going to have a different menu of passes to choose from. Some are for the whole season with unlimited number of days, while others may have "blackout days," such as during Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's possible to buy ticket packages for four days at a time.
3. Buy the pass.
Many resorts are having sales events in the Denver area. It's also possible to buy passess online, which is an easier way to skip the long lines that can form at stores. Have payment ready, and be prepared to have a photo taken for the pass.
