This Shoe Reporter is not usually known as a "girly girl". I never wear lace, ruffles, or baby pink, although I do enjoy a spa day and stock enough makeup to fill a drug store.
However, I love rosettes. Those delicate little flowers placed on a shoe or boot make me feel feminine without looking too sweet. The guts it takes to wear a leather flower on one's shoe must counteract the fact that there is a flower on aforementioned shoe. Somehow it's sexy and smart, not silly and girly at all. The slideshow below has several edgy options.

This fall had shoe designers forming rosettes on everything from boots to flats to sky high heels. My favorite is from L.A.M.B., seen in the photograph above. After trying them on at Nordstrom, I immediately found I could barely stand up straight in the steep heels, much less walk in them. The heel is advertised at approximately 4 1/4", but felt like 6". I kept searching and found a wearable knock-off from Steve Madden Luxe at DSW. The heel is advertised as 4 1/2" with a 1/2 inch platform and was relatively comfortable. The Flower Bootie had an added bonus of being several hundred dollars cheaper!
Although the weather has changed here in Seattle, and strappy sandals are no longer appropriate, I intend on wearing my rosettes into spring 2010.
