Tuesday, November 24

  • AR Productions presents OutLoud!, a weekly spoken-word and music event. Admission $5. 7 p.m. at Rubyfruit Jungle, 1135 Decatur St. in the French Quarter.
  • Prose writers, members of Mid-City Writers Group, meet and critique original work. Email midcity.writers@gmail.com for details.

Wednesday, November 25

  • Friends of New Orleans Public Library holds its book sale. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Latter Library Carriage House, 5120 St. Charles Ave., 504.596.2625. This event is also held on Saturday.
  • The New Orleans Poetry Forum holds workshops every Wednesday. 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., 257 Bonnabel Blvd., in Metairie, 504.835.8472.
  • Open Mic Poetry & Spoken Word - Loren Murrell hosts a weekly poetry and spoken-word night with free food. Free admission. 8:30 p.m. at Yellow Moon Bar, 800 France St., in Bywater.
  • Neutral Ground Coffeehouse hosts a weekly Tao Poetry reading. 9 p.m., 5110 Danneel St., 504.891.3381.
  • La Divina Cafe e Gelateria host its Open Mic Poetry Jam and invites writers to read their work. All styles are welcome. 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 621 St. Peter St., 504.302.2692

Thursday, November 26

Happy Thanksgiving

  • The New Orleans Renaissance Society presents a weekly open-mic Spoken Soul Session featuring poetry, jazz, hip-hop and soul. Admission $7 general, $5 students with college ID. 8 p.m. to midnight at 311 Decatur St., first floor, 504.982.0922
  • 17 Poets! Literary Series, a weekly poetry reading with open mic afterward. Free admission. 8 p.m. at Gold Mine Saloon, 705 Dauphine St., in the French Quarter, 504.568.0745.

Friday, November 27

  • The Afro-American Book Stop hosts Black Friday, readings from Ellen McKnight, Markrois J. Williams and Freddi Williams and signings from Rhonda Lawson and Jose Torres-Tama from Noon to 5 p.m. at 7056 Read Blvd., 504.243.2436.
  • The Cookbooks & Cocktails Series group meets weekly to discuss classic New Orleans cookbooks from 4;30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Kitchen Witch Cook Books Shop, 631 Toulouse St., 504.528.8382.
  • Authors Arthur Hardy and Angus Lind sign their books, Hardy’s Mardi Gras in New Orleans and Lind's Prime Angus, 6 p.m. at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 3721 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, La. 504.455.5135.
