The BMW ORACLE Racing team finally finished a match race against the Italian team Azzurra, but a wind shift cost them their lead at the start, and the race.

"We came off the start line with the start we wanted, going to the left side into pressure," said tactician Hamish Pepper (NZL). "It was all looking good and we made the call to tack and cross, but when we tacked, the breeze started hooking right, and they ended up crossing us by more than a boat length instead of us crossing them by two."

The wind continued swinging through 180 degrees, so that both boats were able to lay the marks on the remaining legs through the finish.

BMW ORACLE Racing falls to 0-1 in the regatta, which is marred by light and shifting winds. The Americans are scheduled for two races Tuesday, November 10 against the French team Pages Jaunes, and the French/German team ALL4ONE.

At the end of the day Monday, Emirates Team New Zealand was undefeated with three wins. The Swedes, Italians, and British each have one win.

Back in San Diego

BOR 90 wing,America'sCup,Jimmy Spithill,Core BuildersTim Smyth and Mark Turner, the managers at Core Builders who completed the BOR 90 wing project, handed the wing over to an assembly of the full team on site in San Diego on Monday November 9. To go with the wing, Tim and Mark presented BOR 90 helmsman Jimmy Spithill with a WWII flight jacket, pilots cap, and “Top Gun” sunglasses.

"We're going into an area no one's ever gone before”, Spithill said. “When you look at this thing, the heart certainly starts beating a bit faster. It's going to be exciting."   Check out this video of the handover
