In an effort to get special attention for some very special adoptable pets, Petfinder has designated August 12 as "Adopt-a-Less-Adoptable-Pet Day."
What are less adoptable pets? Big dogs, black dogs and black cats, FIV+ cats, pets with physical disabilities, senior pets and breeds that have a bad reputation are all examples of hard-to-adopt pets.
But big dogs make wonderful, loyal companions. Senior pets are mellow and come already house-trained. FIV+ cats, as long as they are spayed/neutered and not aggressive, can live long lives even in multi-cat households. Black cats are mysterious and affectionate and their fur blends perfectly with your favorite little black dress. Pets with physical disabilities are absolutely amazing creatures that will inspire you every day with their courage and determination.
Shelters and rescue groups across North Texas will be showcasing their hard-to-adopt pets on August 12th as one more way to help end the euthanasia of adoptable pets. Please consider adopting a less-adoptable pet. They can bring incredible joy and companionship to any home.
