Do not worry, there is no shame or guilt to be laid on you here. This is a moment for all of us parents to cut each other some slack, and even applaud each other, for sometimes throwing out the rules.
As the holidays approach, our wallets get mighty thin and the bills seem to arrive faster and faster. Especially with the current recession, instead of shopping we should all be home paying our bills, balancing our check books and wiping the sweat from our brows.
Maybe that is what we should be doing, but if you do not mind me saying it..."&$#@ that!" Or, in toddler-friendly terms..."Pish-posh!"
Buzz off, bill collectors. Let us enjoy the holiday season. It is a time for joyous occasion and sugarplums and magic sleighs. It is a time for giving gifts to your cherished family and friends. It is a time to feel your heart swell with pride and happiness to watch your kids open their favorite toys on Christmas morning.
If we allow these things to take a back seat to our financial responsibilities, where does that leave our holidays?
Go ahead and put off paying a couple of bills for a few weeks so you can buy a shiny train set for your son or a ballerina jewelry box for your daughter. Then wrap them in gift paper from the dollar store and call it even.
