There's been talks of a fourth sequel for the Resident Evil video game movie franchise all over Internet chat boards lately. Well there is a fourth sequel, but its animated and supposedly not canon so we won't go there. At the bottom of this article will be a few words about the projected fourth live action sequel. Now for a brief recap of the franchise so far.
Resident Evil
The deadly T-virus is exposed and nearing airborne in a top secret laboratory called "The Hive", that is funded by the evil Umbrella Corporation, turning all the researchers and lab workers into raging people eating zombies along with the lab animals turning into mutated, blood thirsty freaks of nature. The government orders an elite task force led by Alice, who is suffering from amnesia and Rain(Michelle Rodriguez from Fast and the Furious fame) to contain the outbreak. The bad news? They have only 3 hours before the pathogen infects the entire world.
Resident Evil Apocalypse
The hot blooded, zombie destroying Alice is back again, starting off from where the last film ended. She wakes up in a hospital and gets outside to see the entire city in ruins. She grabs a shotgun out of an abandoned police car and stars her hunt. The entire Raccoon City is quarantined and its up to her and her friends to fight off the undead zombies and rescue the daughter of Dr. Ashford to which they uncover the deadliest foe yet, the Nemesis.

Resident Evil Extinction
Back in Raccoon City, the always fearless Alice is on the hunt to get rid of the dreaded T-Virus, along with a few friends of course. During the escapade and being attacked by the undead zombies, a diary is found that speculates a virus free zone in Alaska. Dr. Isaacs gets bitten by a super zombie and becomes mutated. The film ends with many clones of Alice waking up from incubation.
The first Resident Evil is a great horror flick. The second and third sequel are still a lot of fun to watch with more action than before. Milla Jovovich as Alice who is in a skirt fighting mutants is the greatest glorification of women kicking butt, but not in a demeaning kind of way. The action was well lit by the hot Death Valley sun in Extinction, the colors are all well done with dim blues in the first and second one, with bright orange tints in a few outdoor settings.
The movies are all about mindless, zombie killing action with decent plot and character development but the action here is fun and exciting. The plot is very much like the video game so gamers should rejoice.
There have been talks of the newest sequel Resident Evil: Afterlife. Its been confirmed by Milla Jovovich yesterday and the speculated shooting will start by the end of the year with a scheduled September 17, 2010 release. No other talks have been known at this time.
