The planet Cybertron and its inhabitants are engaging in a secret war on Earth. The heroes, the Autobots are fighting the evil Decepticons, two factions of alien robots who can disguise themselves by transforming into everyday machinery. They are able to disguise themselves as cars, airplanes, boats, Playstation 2 game consoles and more. Transformers is directed by explosion maestro Michael Bay.
Based on the popular toys that transform from cool vehicles into giant robots, this live action movie hits on the right spots for cool movie going special effects, but fails short with the huge amount of shameless product placement.
General Motors, Burger King and Pepsi, eBay, Playstation, it never ended. The product placement was terrible and made the movie not worth its value, in fact, made the film lose its value. The special effects were perfect though. Nothing looks fake that was obviously computer generated.
Oddly enough, Transformers is a fun movie even with the eBay references. Optimus Prime has great intensity in his vocal range. Unfortunately though, Megatron looked too much like an alien instead of a robot. Also there was no need for any of the human actors. We are there for the robots to win against robots. Bringing the military and two teenage kids into it, even if they are the eye pleasing Megan Fox and Shia LeBeauf, was not necessary.
Its a fun ride but not a ride that is worth visiting often. Its going to be interesting to see how the sequel will turn out later this month.
