Home is where the business is

As a small business owner, do you ever get the feeling that it would be less painful to have the government run you over with a truck versus the prescription for a slow and painful death that they continue to prescribe?

I have written many articles on small business, the ineffectiveness of the Small Business Administration (SBA), The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Senate, and Congress, as well as the President to help small business during the current economic tsunami.

In reading this Wall Street article, my heart sank even further for the men and women who have take the bold leap to start their own business, only to find that in addition to Washington shooting arrows at them, local and state government is doing their part to cripple them as well.

As businesses move out of storefronts and office buildings, the ripple affect to the economy is tremendous. Not only is the building owner losing revenue, all the ancillary services (maintenance, cleaning, food establishments that deliver, etc.) are severely impacted, as well as the blight to the area as buildings sit empty.

A quick reminder to everyone, especially our elected leaders. Small business creates nearly every new job in America. Let me say that again, though with a slight variance. If you think that the current jobless rate is high, if we keep attacking small business, today's unemployment rate will look extremely attractive.

Congress, the Treasury, and Mr. Obama have given billions of dollars to industries that have laid off/fired workers, created no new jobs, and have produced NO return on taxpayer investment.

When will we put some faith and trust in Americans versus huge corporations?
