No matter how old I get, people never cease to amaze me.
A controversy has developed around Southwest Airlines. At the center of this, the airline reached a partnership deal with Sports Illustrated to place a decal of a bikini-clad swimsuit model on one of its aircraft.
Some customers and employees reportedly have an issue with this.
But the airline is now getting some backlash from customers who say the image is "a flying porn ad" and offensive to families.
As for being offensive to families, I can't help but wonder what else about the display of female body may offend them.
Will these same "offended families" forbid their families from watching the news, looking at over-spilling cleavage women, or not visit a beach or pool this summer? Very unlikely!
As for the employees-
On Southwest's blog, employees expressed their disgust . SkyGuy said, "I personally have NO problem with women in swimsuits but as an employee of SWA, I am very embarrassed about this...I PRAY I do not work on this
Here is a thought "SkyGuy." If this morally offends you so much, QUIT! In this recession, your company has inked a deal that obviously produces revenue, as well as "buzz" to draw attention, and hopefully more business to its planes. Did they know ahead of time that this would stir controversy? Probably. Are they the first first to pursue a tactic like this. No!
For those offended, fly another airline. That's why we have more than one choice. For those worried about what their children, grandmothers, and mothers think, lighten up, or put blinders on these people before they leave home as I promise they will see much worse live imagery between your front door and the airport!
In the meantime, kudos to Southwest Airlines for seeking creative ways to bolster the bottom line and get plenty of PR for itself.
