Blogs are nothing new, and more and more companies are using them as a PR tool and as a way for them to more quickly share news and updates about their company to mass amounts of people with little cost and effort.
There has been a new trend however emerging that is causing a backlash to some entrepreneurs.
Some business leaders are using their "personal blog" to express opinions on hot topics such as the upcoming Presidential election. The challenge for them though is that throughout the blog you will find references to their company, thus linking their company to their own personal beliefs.
I personally experienced this myself this weekend. A vendor that I give my hard-earned money to each month posted something that I found so offensive that I posted a reply. The owner of the company offered a ridiculous retort. From previous posts I knew that this gentlemen and I were at odds on certain issues, which is healthy and fair. However when the business owner crosses the line, at least in your mind, you have to decide which is more important, your beliefs, or your convenience as more often than not, the two do not live harmoniously.
I agree with this 2005 cover story from Business Week that "Blogs will change your business", but be warned, the "change" may not always benefit your bottom line.
