Everywhere we turn there is bad news. The distressed U.S. auto industry, more financial institutions close to, or who are failing. The stock market going up and down more often than Eliot Spitzer’s hooker.  Unemployment numbers swelling faster than Santa Claus’s stomach. Home foreclosures mounting. Small businesses getting NO meaningful assistance from the Bush, or the incoming Obama administration, much less Congress. Etc., etc, etc.

With all of this reality squarely in front of us, I wonder what would happen if just for one week the media and our elected officials offered us some positive news. Please understand, I am not asking these two huge influencer's to lie to us, but instead share with us some success stories that are happening despite the current conditions.

Yes Virginia; there is actually some encouraging information to report and highlight, and its time to give our negative psyche a break. After all, we are in the midst of the season of hope!

As I doubt that the media will agree with me (bad news sells) and politicians benefit from an electorate that thinks only Washington can cure the problems that we face, how about everyone try these three simple things every day this week.

  1. Instead of saying things can’t get worse; say things can only get better
  2. Rather than thinking that you will probably fail; consider saying that you will most likely succeed with the right attitude and effort
  3. In place of looking to the heavens and saying “why me”; how about trying “why not me…its my time to thrive
