2008 top business stories
I have been tasked with offering my thoughts on the Top Business stories for 2008. With that in mind, here is this week's version of 5 noteworthy stories.
- We witnessed the beginning of the end for print media. When you see stalwart publications such as The Christian Science Monitor, US News & World Report, and Sun Media move away from print in favor of digital delivery, you quickly realize that you won't have to worry about washing ink off of your fingers too much longer!
- Even with a sputtering economy, we still saw lines for the new 3G Apple iPhoe.
- As President Bush, President Elect Obama, House Speaker Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Reid rushed in to try to save Wall Street and Detroit, they effectively told small business to drop dead.
- Despite difficult economic conditions, the New York Yankees decided this week to pay CC Sabathia $161 million dollars and A.J. Burnett $82.5 million dollars at the same time as they asked struggling New York City for a bailout.
- $4 a gallon gas forced many to stay home and downsize their larger SUV's. Even as prices dropped below $2 per gallon, consumers were not wooed back to the highway, unless it was used to get to them to the unemployment line.
Stay tuned as next week I will be adding 5 more notable business stories for 2008. Feel free to drop me a line and tell me what you think the top business stories are for 2008.
