It is just way too easy to blame the downturn in the economy on the demise of the print media.
The truth of the matter is that the print media is cumbersome, not particularly user friendly, and not timely whatsoever. There is also another side of this story; bias. No one picks up the Washington Post or the Washington Times thinking that they will find neutral reporting or viewpoints.
While the print media moves more to electronic methodology, will readers/viewers follow them to their on-line venues? I do not think so. There are so many outlets available for information to think any one site will have continuous reader loyalty, especially among the younger generation.
While this is the start of a huge change for the print media, this trend will spread even more so to television news. There is no objectivity left in this medium either, and it is no longer “appointment television” watching for anyone, except perhaps for older citizens.
As negative as the future is for print and television media, there is positive news here. The business opportunity for quality news driven web portals and websites has no limits and tremendous potential.
