Not only are we celebrating the 40th anniversary of one of our favorite picture books this year, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, but on June 25th we'll celebrate Eric Carle's 80th birthday.

To celebrate this anniversary, a special pop-up edition of the book was published in March (The Very Hungry Caterpillar Pop-Up Book), and Chronicle Books has released Eric Carle Decorative Prints, a collection of 12 lovely posters celebrating Eric Carle’s bright, and cheerful recognizable art.

In celebration of Eric Carle’s 80th Birthday and the 40th Anniversary of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art has organized a special exhibition that chronicles both Eric’s life and career that runs until August 30, 2009. From his childhood art and advertising work to some of the history behind the creation of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, the visitor will experience the full spectrum of Eric’s creative genius. Upcoming exhibits also include showcases of Tomie de Paola’s work and the art of Virginia Lee Burton (of Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel fame).

On August 23, 2009, Eric Carle will be visiting the museum and signing a limited number of books.

More information can be found here: www.carlemuseum.org.
