So, this week, I struggled to find the time to take a shot I could be proud of. There were some that interested me, but none that I really wanted to work with. I've been meaning to go out an shoot in the snow (we've had enough of it here), but the snowfall hasn't been happening on the weekends and I've been getting up with barely enough time to clean off my car.
I was in traffic, camera in the passenger seat with a 50mm locked onto it, when the last vestiges of ice started to melt and drip down the windshield. Since I wasn't going anywhere, no need to turn the wipers on. Then the water started to bead up, tracing the lines of the streams almost like a "connect-the-dots" picture. I grabbed the camera, set the aperture at f/8.0 and let the aperture priority mode select the shutter speed. The ISO was at 400, so the shutter speed dialed in at 1/800.
The result wasn't anything stellar, but when I got to the processing stage, I tweaked the tone curve, making the photo almost jarring by comparison to the original. That said, because of it's jarring effect and the rain streaks, there's more of a sense of urgency on the pic. Which is what I felt at the time. It took me two hours to get to work and I was slamming on the brakes the entire time.
