family tree photo frame
A family tree frame like this one makes a great gift

So, you've seen all the articles about the "perfect" gift for a photographer. But you're the photographer and you're stock on what to give to the special people in your life. Now that you've survived the rush of Black Friday, here are a few ideas to think about without going to the mall:

Custom stationary - Take your best shots, your themed shots, you shots of your friends' kids playing together and print them up as cards, letterhead and notepaper. Sure, we live in a digital world but sending and recieving something handwritten and thoughful feels pretty good. Here's your opportunity to add another layer of special to it.

A family photography package - You've got the equipment and the talent and they've been wanting a family photo for a long time. Not too many people have an updated family picture from year to year (my dad still has one taken in the the '80s), so this can be something really special.

A "family tree" frame - Fill this with fun pix of the family. Kirkland's sells a nice one  or you can create a photobook that does something similar.

A photo calendar - Include birthdays and anniversaries, marked by small photos on the date, and you family and friends will have reminders throughout the year of each other (and not just on the days you've marked).

Frame and matte one of your photos - You've got friends who admire what you do and maybe they've told you that certain photos really hit home for them. Print it, get it matted and framed and give it to them as a gift. Or, if you've traveled with them, print a photo from the trip and do the same thing. If you don't know what would "work" in their home, just give them the frame with a note saying they can pick anything from your work.

An inexpensive digital camera - Share your love of photography and set a date to go picture taking. There's a photographer in everyone, and today's technology means that even inexpensive cameras produce great photos. If they've ever said to you "I wish I could take pictures like you," this is the gift for them.

Many thanks to my wonderful wife (who happens to be a talented photographer) for suggesting this topic and many of the ideas here.
