Facebook, mySpace and LinkedIn have made it easy to keep in touch with a wider community, making it easy to get in touch with and share with friends and colleagues. Now, there are social networking Web sites that target specific communities, including photography buffs.
Myshutterspace is an active community of digital photography enthusiasts and is a place where you can connect with other digital photographers, both amateur and pro. If you're familiar with Facebook or mySpace, you'll pick the use of this up quickly. Photographers share their work here (they do ask that you only post your best photos) and can get critiques of them. Discuss photo techniques, gear and tell your stories of how you got the shot (or missed one!). I've just started using it and already I can see benefits. It's a collaborative space where people can get the information they are looking for and the critical response to their photos that they need to get better.
With over 4,881 members (at least, that's the member number I was assigned), there are a lot of talented photographers on there ready to share information and interact in the same way you would on Facebook, with the added bonus of it all being about photography. I haven't encountered the games, "gifts," quizzes or political advertisments (I can't seem to get away from them on Facebook!).
Myshutterspace is an extension of dphotojournal.com and isn't for everyone. But any photographer who is looking to get better and learn more will benefit from it.
