If you get your morning caffeine fix at Starbucks on Breckenridge’s Main Street, do you wonder who Frank and Theta Brown were (they are mentioned on the historic plaque on the front of the building).

Or, if you visit the Breckenridge Welcome Center at 203 S. Main Street, have you ever noticed the replica of a potato in one of the exhibits? What is its significance to the Town’s mining history?

If you’ve just finished a great season of skiing on Breckenridge’s peaks, think about having to take a motorized rope tow (if you were a member of the first organized ski club) up Carter Park Hill in 1940.

If the above have piqued your interest, then you are in for some fun times this spring for “Get to Know Your Town” month. This contest, from May 1st to June 13th, is the opportunity for locals to learn more about Breckenridge, as part of the Breck150 celebration, and be eligible for prizes as well.

“Passport to the Past” for adults can be obtained at the Breckenridge Welcome Center, and children are encouraged to participate in the “Hunt for Breckenridge History” with their scavenger hunt card – also available at the Welcome Center – both are free. To complete the program, residents will need to visit a collection of historic sites and get their passport stamped at each location. Children will need to hunt for clues at the same locations, and complete the scavenger card.

All sites and tours will be free - simply present your Get to Know Your Town card. Completed passports and scavenger hunts should be turned in to the Breckenridge Welcome Center by the deadline of June 13th, at which time participants will be entered to win great prize packages, including Breckenridge Golf Club passes, six-pack recreation center passes, gift certificates to local shops and more. Winners will be announced by June 18th.
