This column is glad to report that the Culver City Skate Park has – finally – reopened.

But don’t get too excited just yet; the hours of operation have changed yet again. Now, a posted sign advises that, on weekdays, the park is open from 3:30PM until sunset.

Bear in mind that, with the end of Daylight Savings Time (on November 1), the sun goes down around 5:30PM. Therefore, the skate park basically remains open for only two hours a day (!).

According to the park attendant and the locals, there is still work being done on the infamous fence, and the crew allegedly works until 3PM. By that time in the day, there is already plenty of skaters sitting outside, waiting for the gates to be unlocked.

When that happens, the sessions are back in full force. This past Wednesday, notables Lester Kasai and Pat Ngoho were at hand, sharing the pool with other rippers. Among them, Chris Russell was one tearing the place apart with a wide variety of commanding aerials and sharp lip tricks.

The park is open from 9:30AM to 4:30PM on weekends and, once the fence work is done, it is expect to open at 12PM on weekdays.
