Stanford football graduate Alex Fletcher has been forced to retire do to an issue with his kidney. WLOX-TV in Biloxi, MS is reporting the team has put Fletcher on the reserve/retired list due to a “serious kidney condition.”
According to a report on BleacherReport.com, Saints head coach Sean Payton said of the Cardinal grad,
“Unfortunately, Alex will not be able to continue to play because of the medical issue. He has one kidney and the one kidney he has needs some work. It’s pretty serious. He was upset and disappointed when we talked but he knows that he has to get this thing better."
Fletcher was signed by the New Orleans Saints after going undrafted. Fletcher started 44 games at Stanford and had been counted on to provide depth on the New Orleans offensive line.
No other details are available on the severity of the kidney issue other than it is bad enough to prevent Fletcher from playing in the NFL.
