Q&A with Stanford football defensive lineman Ekom Udofia
Official he graduates next week, but the good news for the Stanford Cardinal is that he has one more year of eligibility left. Defensive tackle
Ekom Udofia is getting ready for his final season, a season for which he has very high expectations for both himself and his team. I had a few minutes with Ekom at the Autograph day to talk about Stanford.
Q: How are things going?
It is going well. We had a good six weeks of training, the offseason program and good testing that went well, now it is mainly about trying to finish up strong in school and getting ready for the summer.
Q: How is that? We are so used to see you running around the football field, it is easy to forget that you are a student as well.
It is tough. I just got done with my final STS(?) paper, which is about 30 pages, and that was draining. It is definitely a commitment from both the academic side and the athletic side.
Q: How long did it take you to balance football with the student life?
It took me about freshman year to get comfortable with the expectations and the support staff and resources that I can use. It did help that I had my brother (
Udeme, who just graduated) around to help guide me. Now I have it down, but it took about a year to get comfortable.
Q: What is your brother doing now?
He is training right now, he has a couple of workouts coming up (with NFL teams), one on the 18th, so he’ll be out here for my graduation and then he’ll have some workouts trying to get signed.
Q: What are you working on this summer as you get ready for training camp?
Keep getting stronger, make sure you are always lifting weights and having myself in peak shape so if I need to be out there on the field the whole time, that is what I plan on doing, so that is what I am working on. Playing tenacious and helping this team get to a bowl game.
Q: Is that the goal?
Yes, a bowl game all the way!
