Stanford football running backs coach Willie Taggart has been named the new head football coach at Western Kentucky University. Taggart is in his third year at Stanford under head coach Jim Harbaugh.
Taggart was elected into the WKU Hall of Fame earlier this season. He is a former quarterback for the Hilltoppers and set 11 school records during his stay from 1995-1998. He is one of four football players to have his jersey retired at WKU.
Taggart had been an assistant coach at WKU for eight years before he joined Harbaugh at Stanford.
"I always follow Western Kentucky University, ever since I was in school here," said Taggart during the announcement. "When I saw this opportunity, I knew this was the opportunity of a lifetime. My wife and I sat around and talked about it and this is a dream come true. Western Kentucky University is in my DNA. One thing about me, you don't have to retrain me in the community. I know where to go. I've always bled red since day one, and I know everything about WKU and I know what it takes to win here. I know what type of athlete we want, and I know what type of direction we want to go."
Taggart and his wife Taneshia have two children, Willie Jr. and Jackson.
