Today's EVA at the International Space Station went beautifully, with lots of inspecting and lubricating going on to keep the ten-year-old ISS in top shape.
The crew remains without a lost thirty -pound tool bag that went floating away during Tuesday's work session. Heide Stefanyshyn-Piper, while cleaning up some nastiness which was left courtesy of a grease gun, lost her grip on the equipment, which was likely improperly secured. Away it went.
Why didn't she simply leap after it? Because this is a dangerous business. As Stefanyshyn-Piper told reporters, "There was that split second thinking that, maybe I can go jump for it and grab it. Then I realized that it would just make everything worse and then we'd have two floating objects, one of which would be me. So the best thing to do was just to let it go."
The item is far from the ISS, as well as Endeavour. Don't you fret-- no collisions anytime soon.
Still, it would be nice to have a Star Wars- style assistant droid at times like this...
