Party time in San Francisco ends much too soon. It seems to me that in a city with so much to take in, the night gods would have the courtesy to grant us just a few more hours of debauchery. We don't ask for much, maybe just a few more moments of sipping and flirting. I'm sure those of you in interest would readily agree that dancing till the sun comes up sounds like a tasty proposition.
Somewhere, I'm sure, there is scientific evidence that proves staying open til the early morning hours cuts down criminal behavior on the streets, and increases the fun variable inside the club. Sure there is a grace period in effect: stop serving at 1:30, take the drinks away at 1:45, shut down by 2 A.M., but that is of little significance to the inner child ready to burn a hole on the dance floor. Besides, we all know the sadness felt by party go-er and money making bartender's alike when the clock strikes the Cinderella hour. I suppose what I'm advocating for is a mass grief relief effort aimed at bettering the quality of fun for all involved. "woo-woo".
Seriously though, there has to be some good and vital reason to keep businesses open a bit later than usual considering the city is wishing for a financial miracle of any sort. I'm not saying that we should move to New Orleans time, but at the very least consider the possibilities of late night commerce. It doesn't take a doctorate to understand that there is money coming into San Francisco on any given Saturday night. In my humble opinion there is no one more willing to spend than the drunkard on a weekend rampage. So long as there's enough time to sober up, and enough time to hit the breakfast joint afterwards....no harm no foul.
I'm sure somewhere down the road my thinly veiled attempt to become a hero to thousands will get caught up in a bureaucratic abyss and simply fizzle away. It would be nice of course to think any of my wishful daydreams could come true, but the chances are slim to none. Unless of course...you want to help me give it a go.
