South St. Paul's celebration gets underway this week in one of the Minnesota's most charming festivals. From June 26 through June 29 South St. Paul lets summer officially begin with a huge parade and smiles all around.
It started 34 years ago as hometown Gov. Tim Pawlenty was still getting his education in South St. Paul. Kaposia Days is the real deal. There is no need for a retro look back. It has just not changed much over the years. There is the Kaposia Days baseball tournament at McGuire Field starting Thursday with no games on Friday due to the parade. At the same time, the second largest softball tournament in Minnesota is played throughout the weekend over three different venues.
The lure of a parade has always stayed in South St. Paul and The Kaposia Days Parade is a doozy. The parade regularly features over 100 attractions and people start positioning their lawn chairs as early as daybreak to claim their spots along the parade route for the 6:30 PM start.
There will be the politicians and firemen, the Queen and her Court, street dances, cute kid's photo contests, pro wrestling in the VFW parking lot, pony rides, and just a lot more to do. It will be capped off with a fireworks display at the High School football field at 10:00 PM Sunday night.
