The Christmas celebrations are at a peak around the area, and if you think there is no more to be done than wait for Christmas to happen, you'd miss out on some serious holiday events.

Brad Richason, the Twin Cities Perfomance Art Examiner, has an extensive list for those in a theatrical holiday spirit right here.

The Canadian Pacific Railway's Holiday Train chugs into Hastings and Cottage Grove on Friday, Dec 12 about 4:15 p.m. in Hastings and in Cottage Grove around 5:45 p.m.

The Inver Hills Community Band perform their seventh annual Christmas Holiday concert at 4:00 pm on Dec. 14 at Advent Methodist Church 3945 Lexington Ave. So. in Eagan, MN The concert is free and, of course, open to the public. The band features  around forty members and uses a variety of vocalists and choirs for The Hallelulia Chorus. They are the pride and joy of Inver Grove Hts.

The kids get into the act and will be performing "Christmas Around The World" at Emanual Lutheran Church, 2075 70th St. E. in  Inver Grove Hts. Dec. 17 at 7p.m. and everyone is invited to see the thespians' play.

When the term "deck the halls" was first used it may have been in reference to the Alexander Ramsey House just up the street from us who live in South St. Paul. It is decorated to the nines for the season, just as Alexander Ramsey would want it. It is Victorian. It does not at all look like the Mall of America or Wal-Mart. The Minnesota History Center takes us back in time at the historic Ramsey House, 265 S. Exchange St., St. Paul  and has quite a few events.

"The Homecoming: Christmas at the Ramsey House" runs from 10: a.m. to 3:00p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays through Dec.31, with Sundays starting a couple of hours later at noon. "Homeschool Days: The Victorian Family at Christmas" keeps the youngsters busy with a lot of "hands on" stuff is featured on Dec 16.

"The Doll's Victorian Christmas" is scheduled for Dec.17 with four tours in the evening at 6:00, 6:30, 7:00 and 7:30p.m. "Farewell to 2008 Candlelight Tour" on New Years Eve says good-bye and hello with tours leaving every half hour starting at 6:00 p.m. and ending at 8:00 p.m.

Even a railroad tycoon had to keep up with the Jones' and when James J. Hill saw how his contemporaries were decorating their mansions for the season, he quite simply had to out-do them. He did. The James J. Hill House, 240 Summit Avenue in St. Paul is open from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Dec. 28. and is opulently garnished for an ostentatious manor.

Both Ramsey House and the James J Hill can charge up to 10.00 dollars for various events. It is strongly reccomended that you make reservations. The Ramsey House is (651) 296-8760 and The James J. Hill House is (651) 297-2555.
