The City of South St. Paul may want to consider having a Christmas list for the Obamas as they make their way into the White House this January.
A few ideas follow, but, as in all lists, it can have a life of its own after the first run through and we can expect additions and ammendments to follow as we careen towards Christmas Day. Your suggestions, dear reader, are welcome and can be offered by clicking on the "comments" button at the end of the text. This will be ongoing as the season progresses.
The Sportsman's Guide, the South St. Paul catalog and discount company, could offer anything Barack, Michelle, or their two daughters may want when it comes to outfitting for the great outdoors. When the Minnesota deer season opened in early November, the amount of camoflage and blaze orange outfits was in abundance and where better to get matching ensembles than right here in South St. Paul?
I can pretty much rely on the fact that it will cost less than what was budgeted for Gov. Sarah Palin during her run for the vice presidency alongside Sen. John McCain.
While shopping, we may want to consider a hollow shaft nut driver set to loosen up some of the nuts in the White House that may have been frozen in place over the last eight years.
Ace Hardware in Inver Grove Hts. can offer to them what they offer to us all the time: accurate, cheerful, advice for their home needs and Dave, the earstwhile store manager and baseball aficionado, could update the new president with the latest baseball scores and Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox news. It would be a big gift to give for Dave. He's not the biggest fan of the Southsiders.
Christmas dinner could feature a variety of Booya that may be selected from the VFW post 295 to the American Legion Post 95 or from any number of churches that offer this delicacy. It is as traditional around here as a turkey dinner is there.
A courtesy pass, good for the duration of Obama's term, could be offered by our mayor Beth Baumann to the new First Family for their new puppy at the recently opened Off-Leash Park on Bryant Ave.
Our town Christmas tree, illuminated shortly after Thanksgiving, could be shipped to Washington D.C. and displayed as the national tree. I'm sure we could figure that out.
With the economic meltdown and the erosion of retirements and savings, the city of South St. Paul might very well be in the vanguard for the practical and frugal shopper for those looking for Christmas gifts for the Obamas.
From the city engineering department we could give them a glass of water half full, the glass half empty going to the Bushes.
If the new First Family goes camping or hiking they can always see what's what from Marie, our Minneapolis Outdoor Recreation Examiner.
