Stroller manufacture Maclaren is expects to recall 1 million umbrella strollers on Tuesday due to a potential finger hazard for children. The company says a side hinge mechanism poses a hazard to children's fingers when the umbrella stroller is being opened or closed.
According to a report in the New York Daily News Maclaren is making the voluntary recall after reports of 12 injuries. This recall involves all Maclaren single and double umbrella strollers sold nationwide from 1999 through November 2009.
The company is providing consumers and retailers free repair kits which will cover a joint on the umbrella stroller's hinge mechanism.
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends consumers should immediately stop using these recalled strollers and contact Maclaren USA to receive a free repair kit.
Maclaren says they are in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
