If there is a special heaven for creative types like me, the Art Directors Club of Denver (ADCD) annual show surely must be a part of it. The event was set in the Sherman Event Center at the El Jebel building downtown. Its beautiful design and color lent itself to the evening’s celebration of creativity and success.

There were so many entries – 450 in all, in a variety of different categories. Highlights of the evening included Steve Bullock Design’s Pearl Street Poster Project (pictured left) winning big with the Best of Show award as well as 3 Judges Choice awards. Karsh & Hagan also walked away with one of the coveted Judges Choice awards with their Brasstacks integrated campaign (pictured right) for Kappa Alpha Order. Over 40 different agencies received awards for their creative work. Another big winner (and one of my favorites) was Cactus who received an award for their work on “The Cigarette is Dead” campaign.

While the awards took center stage, it was the people and the festivity that really made the evening sensational. Randall Erelends of Section 45 DJ’d the event with a engaging mix of music – as well as a uniquely timed interruption of the award ceremony to announce that “congrats to the winners, but Beyonce had the best video this year.” It lightened the mood even further and got some laughs. The décor was perfect, the setting was appropriate and everyone there was prepared to bask in the creativity that was present in the room. And having the night finished with the Boba Fett Flash Mob Marching Band was the perfect exclamation point to the evening. I am already looking forward to next year!

The Art Directors Club of Denver was created in 1955 as an outlet for members to share their ideas, discuss their challenges and collaborate as a group on educational projects that can clarify the process of buying and selling graphic productions. Since then times have changed drastically. From primarily using artist conceptions to now using digital software and equipment to conceive and produce projects, the ADCD has grown and adapting to the changing times. I would encourage anyone in the industry of marketing, design, print or creative services to check out the ADCD and its membership options.

Congrats to the winners and thank you to the ADCD and its supporting members for a fun and exciting evening!
