The prosecutor in the case of alleged serial killer Anthony Sowell of Cleveland says he will seek the death penalty for Sowell, according to a press statement released by his office.
Cayahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason made that comment today after a grand jury returned attempted murder, rape and assault charges against Sowell for his alleged attack on a woman September 22.
That woman survived the attack and it was her case that led police to Sowell's home where 11 bodies have been recovered.
Authorities identified the eight and ninth victims today. They are Janice Webb, 48, and Kim Yvette Smith, 44. The search for bodies at the home is currently suspended as police collect other evidence. Police today took cadaver-sniffing dogs to an abandoned school and another building near Sowell's home, according to a report in The Plain Dealer, but no more remains were found.
In other developments, the FBI said the search for potential victims will expand overseas to Japan, as well as to North Carolina, South Carolina and California. These are all areas where Sowell was stationed as a marine between 1978 and 1985.
