A 22-year-old man is charged in the beating death of his 16-year-old girlfriend in Chicago last week.

Trimane Jason Winters, of the 4000 block of West Jackson,  is charged with first degree murder in the death of Desiree Holmes.

On October 29, Holmes was rushed to the hospital after complaining of severe stomach pain. She died while undergoing surgery for a lacerated liver, according to a Chicago police department press release.

Police say Winters made statements implicating himself in the beating. Police tracked down other witnesses who also said Winters beat Desiree.

Desiree was the mother of a 3-month-old baby, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.
