A young man who exchanged shots with police on Sunday is now charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder and two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Joel Thomas, 19, of the 7900 block of South Kedzie, allegedly shot at two officers who responded to a call of shots fired in the area of 72nd and Western.

Police returned fire and took off running after Thomas. He was caught about a block away, according to police.

Neither the officers or Thomas were hit during the shooting.
