A 36-year-old McHenry woman got an 18-month prison sentence today because she tried to pass off someone else's urine as her own during a court-ordered drug and alcohol screening, according to a report in the Northwest Herald.

Heather Derer, of 3103 Riverstream Drive, was sentenced to 60 days in jail and two years probation for stealing more than $27,000 from an elderly woman in 2008.  She was a caretaker for the woman and given the amount of money stolen, it would seem Derer got a break. But, she apparently just couldn't stick to the rules of probation.

As part of probation, Derer had to undergo routine drug and alcohol screening.

According to the Herald report, Derer recently brought a sample of urine from a friend's son to the testing facility and tried to claim it was her sample. Somebody saw through the ruse and prosecutors were notified that Derer was in violation of her parole. So now, it's 18 months in prison.

The story is similar to another recent urine test scam in Kane County. To read "Cold urine lands  probationer in hot water" click here.
