A Melrose Park man who was drunk when he led police on a high speed chase that ended in the death of a Norridge man is sentenced to ten years in prison.
Daniel Martinez, 24, of 1112 N. 24th Avenue, pleaded guilty today to one count of aggravated driving under the influence, according to a press release from the Cook County state's attorney's office.
Martinez was driving with a blood alcohol content more than twice the legal limit when police tried to pull him over in Elmwood Park on May 31, 2009.
Martinez sped away from police and took them on a chase through Elmwood Park and River Grove before running a red light and broadsiding another car at the intersection of Grand and Thatcher. The driver of the other car, 55-year-old Henry Manso of Norridge, was killed.
At the time of the accident, there was a warrant out for Martinez for failing to appear in court on a previous DUI charge.
The state's sttorney's office say Martinez has to serve at least 85% of his ten year term before he can even be considered for parole.
