Presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain offer their respective plans for immigration reform and other issues to attentive audiences gathered in San Diego for the National Council of La Raza's 40th annual conference in July, 2008.

This post will focus on the official positions on immigration from each candidate. Since Hispanics are the largest immigrant community in the US, much of the debate revolves around them. I’ve included three videos which let the candidates lay out their proposals on this volatile issue.

Arizona Senator and Republican presidential candidate John McCain met with The Des Moines Register editorial board Wednesday, October 24. McCain talks about his views on immigration, including the importance of security the borders and what he would do about the millions of illegal immigrants already in the United States.

Barack Obama supports giving driver's licenses to Immigrants, so they can work safely and live out the American dream.

Personally I recommend visiting the links with a * before voting tomorrow. Consider it homework for democracy.  But no matter what, remember to actually go out and cast your vote. If you don’t get involved in the political process don’t be surprised if your voice is not heard or taken seriously. It’s your right and duty as a US citizen to vote. So after all that work to become a citizen are you going to slack off now? Like Sam Daley-Harris said: “It’s time for us to realize that democracy is not a spectator sport.”
