Maltese dogs seem to be in the news a lot, lately.
Last week, examiner.com told you about a Maltese who was returned to its owner after being missing for three years. A microchip led to that dog's return.
Another Maltese had its picture accompany two stories in the past week on a local television news Web site.
While browsing the news on Sunday, I noticed that Dallas television station KTVT Channel 11, had a story about a Maltese from Florida that was found 1,000 miles away, in Illinois.
That story piqued my interest.
When I went to read it, I noticed something that seemed a little strange. The same dog was pictured more than once on the Web site.

Obviously, this was done because in each case, a photo of the actual dog was not available.
The pictures made me laugh because I thought of times past when, as part of the (deep voice) BIG media, we went to great lengths to get photos for stories.
If everything failed, it was time for a "file photo," or, the absolute worst scenario: no photo.
I imagined a frazzled editor telling a reporter, "Oh no, we'll have to run that picture of the Maltese again."
Still, I don't like to raise an issue without offering a potential solution. So, for future reference, here's another picture of a Maltese.
