Now that the birds are chirping, flowers are blooming, and the trees are getting those green leaves back, many of us are itching to partake in outdoor activities. While we can certainly get out and tend to those lawns and gardens, it will be at least another month or two before we’ll be able to enjoy swimming at our local area beaches. The air temperatures are still a bit cool and ocean temperatures are slowly rising from our long and cold New England winter. However, in Siesta Key, Florida, located in southwest Florida, approximately 1400 miles away from Providence, air temperatures are running nearly 80 degrees and ocean water temperatures are in the mid 70s. Just a short plan ride away, Siesta Key, boosts three beautiful beaches, numerous outdoor recreational activities for visitors, and as always, offers some exciting upcoming island events for tourists.
Siesta Key, an island off the coast of southwestern Florida, is divided into three beautiful beach areas. The world renowned Siesta Public beach is best recognized for its white sugar sand and brilliant blue water. Winner of numerous travel and vacation awards for best beach area, the wide shoreline goes on for miles and the seashore is made up of 99% quartz. The sand’s consistency provides guests with a soft and cool white powdery beach area year around. Beach amenities include lifeguards, tennis and volleyball courts, shaded playground, picnic, and concession areas. Crescent Beach, offering the same quality seashore and crystal clear blue water, is known for its added seclusion and privacy. Turtle Beach, a narrower shoreline than the other two beach areas, affords visitors a better opportunity to find those coveted seashells. Beach amenities include picnic areas, playgrounds, horseshoe pits and a volleyball court.
Visitors can take advantage of Siesta Key’s proximity to the water by partaking in numerous outdoor recreational activities. You can cut through the water on high powered jet skis, get a bird’s eye view while flying on a parasail, catch a big blue marlin onboard a commercial fishing vessel, and explore interesting and beautiful ocean life as you scuba dive along the coastline.
Siesta Key is always offering some exciting events for tourists. Tourists who go south during the month of May will be able to attend these island events:
Classic Corvettes on the Circle, May 2. The third largest Corvette Show in the state of Florida. Over 200 pristine original Class Corvettes will be on display.
Annual Siesta Key Sand Sculpture Contest, May 9. Adults and Children can participate to earn cash prizes.
