I need you all to get very familiar with The Diamond District. The Diamond District is a relatively new hip hop group out of the DMV. (DC, Maryland, Va).Though they've been on the scene individually for some time. Peep their mini documentary below! Very positive piece of work.
Members Y.U., X.O., and Oddisee make up the group of super talented MCs. Oddisee is the group's in-house producer. (Save that money. Studio time is ridiculously expensive).
I work at the University of Maryland. Prior to a crowded and hurried lunch in the food court, I checked my Twitter account and ran across this message from MC Phonte from NC based hip hop conglomerate, Little Brother.
I clicked on the link, and was directed to their website. Hmm, I thought to myself. These guys are from the DMV...why haven't I heard of them. I walk out of my office...and in all seriousness...Diamond District is performing on campus for the Black Student Union's Hip Hop Conference. Talk about a LOST moment! I sat for the entire performance, and was immediately struck by the presence, confidence, their story, skill, and the BEATS!
I couldn't help but notice that the production was so NYC...in 1993...but still very relevant and necessary for today's hip hop crowd.
I'll do another article about their groundbreaking album "In The Ruff."
Get very familiar...Diamond District...remember these dudes! DC, y'all might actually have something... Peep the mini documentary below!
