Want to sell your winery? Call Pete Kight…
Pete Kight has been on a buying spree as of late, with Tandem being the latest acquisition for his newly developed wine company Wine Creek LLC.
Like most in the wine business today, Pete made his pile in another sector, mainly via the invention of the electronic check. So now it's time to do some shopping...
Two years ago Pete started with a purchase and complete overhaul of Quivira, a Dry Creek producer of Zin and Sauv Blanc that pretty much was a fading star at best. Then he cleaned house, from the receptionist to the winemaker, installed Steven Canter as the winemaker, achieved a Demeter Certification for biodynamic winemaking, and has started to put out some really impressive wines (in addition to the Zinfandel, look for their Grenache and Petite Sirah bottlings – as well as future new varietals).
Pete followed that purchase up with a part ownership in Torbreck, a longtime favorite of his, and in fact a winery where his Quivira winemaker, Steven Canter, had spent some time.
This week finds a third winery being brought into the fold. Tandem winery, the home to winemaker extraordinaire Greg LaFollette, is the latest acquisition. The good news is that Greg will remain the winemaker, as this purchase doesn’t seem to be so much a firesale as just another solid winery to add to the portfolio.
Pete, if you are reading this, let me know when you want to go shopping in Willamette…
