Our top store for staying well within your family’s grocery budget is the Williston Liquidation Center-the artist (ahem store) formerly known as Mr. G’s. Whether or not you have food stamps, Mr. G’s always kept you well within your grocery budget. Now, the Williston Liquidation Center has changed management, but they claim (and so far have upheld) that they will not be raising prices or taking anything away. In fact, they are increasing the variety of their inventory and now take coupons.
The Williston Liquidation Center on Mundy Way accepts food stamps and carries overstocked items from all over. They have everything from bread and milk to pasta and cereal. The only department in which they are still lacking is fresh produce. Otherwise, it is a store to frequent once a week-or before your usual grocery stop (whenever possible) because they are always changing inventory. Super deals fly off the shelf pretty fast. Recently, I was able to buy 5 packages of perfectly good Wrap-itz brand traditional flour tortillas for 99 cents a package. Each package contains 14 tortillas. I get their dented cans sometimes for 15 cents a can. The quality is fine, but the packaging is messed up. I can handle that to save anywhere between 35 cents and a dollar a can.
As of a couple months ago, Williston Liquidation Center started accepting coupons. This made me a little nervous, to be honest. We have noticed a price increase in certain products, but according to the manager, the increases are inevitable due to rising shipping costs. Nevertheless, the coupons make it even more possible to stay well under budget with your groceries. Always a good place to buy cereal, Williston Liquidation Center now can help you get your favorite boxes for around 48 cents. Download your cereal coupons, print them out and bring them in.
A few things to be mindful of when shopping Williston Liquidation Center: you do need to check labels. Some of the items are there because they contain MSG, some are past expiration date, and some are just unpopular. The expiration date is usually clearly marked and in a different section. However, the MSG content pertains to many of the spices. You may want them anyway, but you do want to know what you’re buying.
In spite of these things, because of their wide variety of items, it is still my favorite store in this area. You can find all sorts of amazing deals on chocolates and other snacks there. I rarely need to buy those items elsewhere. My husband’s snack drawer for work is stocked almost exclusively with items from the Williston Liquidation Center. The new hours make it easier to get in some thrifty shopping. Monday through Wednesday they are open 9am to 6pm, Thursday through Saturday their hours are 9am to 8pm, and Sunday they are open from 9am to 5pm.
Now, it is worth mentioning that even ‘though this is mainly a grocery countdown, Williston Liquidation Center has a variety of other items as well. Most notably, they have a large selection of clothing for every age. They sell quite a few name brands for very reasonable prices. I tend to only buy the brands I know, because I don’t want to find that a shirt that I bought for $5 was only worth a quarter. Remember, thrifty, not cheap.
There are some other miscellaneous items that they sell, dish and laundry soap, paper products—most of these I can find cheaper at other places—kitchen ware, sponges, and the like. These are hit or miss items. When you hit, you hit big. When you miss, you just remember that next time, you’ll probably find a cart full of items for under 40 bucks. They even have a store now on EBAY, so you can enjoy Williston Liquidation Centers from afar.
Persistence is the name of the game at Williston Liquidation Center. The staff is usually very nice, and the ones who know you are wonderful. Our children are quite popular there, so they have gotten free character balloons on or around birthdays. (They give a balloon to both children, because that’s the kind of people they are.) It’s a great place to keep in your budget minimizing arsenal. Stocking up on low priced staples at Williston Liquidation Center (or Mr. G’s as it was known at the time) got us through some of the tiniest budgets ever, and we are happy to have them as our number one store for grocery budget friendliness!
