Beef Recall – E-coli contamination threat
JBS (Swift) in Greely, Colorado recalls beef for the second time in less than a week suspected of E-coli contamination.
We all know about those calories and cholesterol secreted in those luscious steaks and burgers and just as everyone is

getting ready to fire up those grills for their Fourth of July picnic and outings, we learn that something else may be lurking inside those traditional American favorites.
In May, of this year there was a recall of beef from another company in Illinois suspected of containing E-coli; and then the cookie dough more recently – it seems the E-coli bug has been looking for a new place to hide.
Never before have we needed to say the blessing over our food. “God is great, God is good, let us thank Him for our food; especially if it does not haves E-coli.”
The JBS Swift Beef Company in Greely, Colorado – a Brazilian meat company – has issued a second recall of its beef produced on April 21, 2009.
While the company says they are issuing yet another recall in a matter of days, they are doing it out of an “abundance of caution,” many are concerned where this beef was shipped to and now it might come to their table.
Today in contacting the FDA, CDC, USDA, and the JBS Swift Company I was unable to learn any more information other than what the AP Press and AOL news reported yesterday. There have been 18 illnesses linked to this outbreak. The boxes of suspected contaminated beef contain the following identification information. "EST. 969," a package date of "042109" and a time stamp ranging from "0618" to "1130."
However, the recording from the company states that this is primal cuts of meat and may have been ground into other products by customers and would have no labeling. The original recall issued April 21 – 22 indicated that it was shipped to the

following states. Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oregon,
South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah and Wisconsin.
However, at the writing of this article, it is unknown what states may be involved in the extended recall. The recording said that this meat was distributed in the United States and internationally. And due to the heavy volume of calls – you had to leave a call back number to find out what companies, businesses, or industries may have received this meat.
The spokesman said that due the fact it was traced back to the company through lab work, they voluntarily issued second recall. You may try your luck at 1-888-MPHOTLINE.
Or you may check with this FDA Alert site for further updates; but at this writing there was no information available.
At this time, it is not known whether restaurants, hospitals, schools, or retail outlets have received this product. But a source told me it was sold in Sam's Club.
Many are calling for the company to release the names of the customers who purchased these 380.000 pounds of beef in addition to the 41,000 pounds recalled earlier.
This strain of E-coli is 0157:H7 can potentially be deadly – presenting with bloody diarrhea, dehydration and possible kidney failure. The FDA rates the risk of this product, “HIGH.” This type of E-coli is more dangerous for the young and elderly.
There is a true story involving the death of a little girl a few years ago. Her Dad put both hot dogs and beef on the grill and when he took the cooked hot dogs off, he mistakenly put it on the platter where the raw beef had been. She was taken ill and died – and it was reported later that this distraught Dad took his own life unable to live with what he had done.
Better safe than sorry is a very good adage to use these days. It is better to err on the side of caution than on the side of grief.
This site lists a few of the various types and cuts of meat – but not who purchased it and how it is available to the public. I went to one PDF site which was over 100 pages long merely listing the types of cuts and a reference number beside.
I am only the watchman in the tower – calling out the warning – you need to keep informed about this matter and protect your

family at all cost. I cannot help but think about the Chick-fil-A commercial where the cow says, “Eat more chicken.” This holiday weekend, that might be a very good idea.
Keep informed for later breaking news regarding when and where this meat was distributed.
Joshua says in the Bible regarding another subject, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Forgive the pun here as I borrow Joshua’s statement, “As for me and my house, we will serve no beef – until the all clear.”
If you have any further information regarding this recall, please use the comment place on this page to alert others.
Interesting thought. Paul in the Bible talks about meat in a different meaning – he says when we are young Christians we should feed on the “milk” of the word; but when we mature, we should feed on the “meat of the word.” Young Christians have to grow as believers just as a child grows from being milk fed to eating on its own. We should not sit back and only listen to the pastor spoon feed us as on milk; but we should get into God’s Word and digest it for ourselves.
