The economy sucks, so it's a good thing digital came along to save us from those expensive film needs. The other great thing about a bad economy? Well, it means that there are a lot of non profits out there that could use a little help. If you're a professional photographer, or even an advanced amatuer then there are a lot of charities that could use some help.
It's always nice to take pictures that you know other people will see whether or not you get paid to do it. Of course there are many obstacles to doing this and you really must evaluate whether your services can be of use to a non-profit.
Even if you can't offer your services to a non-profit, you can still check around for some great events where you can snap some shots and donate a little cash for a good cause. Non-profits throw some of the best parties and get togethers, so always make sure you have your camera with you. Who knows, you may get lucky and see your photos on their site.
At the very least your photos will serve as a great reminder of the work that can be done to help others.
