OAKLAND, CA -- A 24-year-old Oakland man is currently in custody after authorities say he stole a car to make a court appearance on a previous auto-theft charge.

Police say Samuel Botchvaroff was arrested after his court appearance after getting into a stolen vehicle.

Officers were alerted about the stolen car after its LoJack system was activated after being reported as missing from Oakland.

Botchvaroff told officers that his own car had been impounded and there was no other way of getting to his arraignment unless he stole the car.
